Chemical polishing agents for titanium anodization
Titanium etching and anodization pretreatment using chemical polishing agents
Titanium is a material in widespread use in the aerospace, medical, and construction fields because it does not rust, is lighter than stainless steel, and has superb mechanical strength.
The chemical polishing technology that we have accumulated over the years is being applied to titanium as well, and we are developing applications for the titanium glossing chemical polishing agent CleanEtch TCP-08 as well as the titanium surface roughing agent CleanEtch TCP-25.
Here, we will introduce some actual examples of these.
Actual Examples
Chemical polishing agents for titanium anodization
Titanium oxidized layer (TiO2) is originally colorless and clear, and at a certain thickness the oxidized layer can achieve various colors though the interference action of the transmitted light and the reflected light.
The thickness of this oxidized layer is controlled by the voltage of the electrolysis equipment, and the method of coloring the titanium surface to an intended color is called anodization.
Compared to plating and coating, it has the advantages of being free of peeling and flaking, without losing the original mechanical properties, weather resistance, and feel of titanium.
Pretreatment for anodization
Normally, the surface of titanium materials have an oxidized layer due to aging and cutting processes, etc., so unless this is removed, there is no hope of uniform coloration by anodization.
We therefore recommend cleaning the metal surface by TCP (Titanium Chemical Polishing) processing with CleanEtch, yielding an optimum surface finish.
Because TCP treatment is a kind of chemical polishing, it requires no special equipment, and can achieve a good surface with soaking alone.
- CleanEtch TCP-08
Mirror surface/gloss polishing, deburring ... An alternative to buffing and acid-washing - CleanEtch TCP-25
Satin finishing/rough polishing, deburring ... An alternative to shot blasting and acid-washing
Beautiful and stable color TiO2 layer can be obtained by CleanEtch TCP-08/TCP-25 before anodizing.
Examples of use of the two etching fluids with different finishes
In addition, it is possible to draw designs on titanium surfaces by respectively using the two chemical polishing liquids with different finishes in combination with an etching resist.
It is also possible to subsequently fabricate a variety of products with color variation by performing anodization.
